In our last edition of the newsletter, we introduced “Perspectives,” providing readers with input from other folks in the neighborhood. For this issue we asked:
“How Important Is It to Know Your Neighbors?”
“Knowing your neighbors gives you a sense of belonging to a community. From asking for a cup of sugar to alerting you to potential danger, knowing your neighbors is enriching and must lead to higher home values. Lawns are mowed, houses are kept up, and kids are watched by neighbors.” (Ben- 2 years in B-W)
“Maybe I’m just lucky, but I consider my neighbors to be some of my closest friends. We don’t hang out often, but we see each other almost daily, sometimes sharing how it’s going and how our families are doing. But if not, a simple smile and a wave helps to feel a friendly connection.” (Lauren - 51 years in B-W)
“I was raised on 36th between Fremont and Klickitat, and now live on 34th and Beakey Street, between Fremont and Klickitat. Growing up, I knew all my neighbors, and today know most of my neighbors. With more criminal activity in the area, it’s more important now to know your neighbors.” (Ed- 62 years in B-W)
“When we moved here, we were told that Portland is a city of neighborhoods. This is so true. Even when we don’t see people for months, like all winter, when we come out in the spring it is so good to reconnect.” (Jeff - 22 years in B-W)

Polly Webber, realtor and mom of two teenage girls, has a lifelong passion for Portland. Born and raised in this neighborhood, she can’t quite shake her original stomping grounds.
