Block Parties Made Easier!
Summer is the time to get outdoors. . .and reconnect with or meet new neighbors. One of the best ways to do this is by holding a block party, in which streets can be closed off with City of Portland permission. The presence of COVID and indoor restrictions moved the city to streamline its permit process via an updated Healthy Blocks program, administered via the Portland Bureau of Transportation.

A point to remember: due to city staffing challenges, applications can take 7 to 15 business days to be approved. Plan now and have fun this summer!
IXNAY on Personal Fireworks
In March, the City of Portland banned the use of all personal fireworks within the city limits. Considerations include the potential for house or wildfires, the fear and stress it causes veterans who’ve served in combat, and pets and other animals severely frightened by the sounds. Find fun in other ways— barbecues with family and friends, games, and water toys. Have a happy and safe Fourth of July!
