In our March-April newsletter, our question focused on women in honor of Women’s History Month in March. With Father’s Day in June, in this edition men get the spotlight. Our Perspectives question is:
“What is one of the best memories you have of your dad?”
“Waiting until he got home on Friday, anxiously awaiting our time to build Legos. He’d look at me as he finished his dinner and tell me to go grab the Lego set. If we got bored, we’d go downstairs and watch James Bond while I sat on his lap.” (Jesse, 18 years in B-W)
“Sitting in a car, just the two of us, after seeing ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ on the biggest screen around and listening to him attempt to explain what he thought the movie meant. Later he introduced me to Chaplin films, ‘Citizen Kane,’ ‘The Third Man,’ and other visually artistic classics.” (David, 30 years in B-W)
“Going to Rocky Butte on Sunday afternoon for popcorn and stopping at Jim Dandy for a cheeseburger.” (Merrit, 26 years in B-W)
“Going to Fry’s Electronics with my dad in L.A. That was the best. I also remember driving with him in his old BMW with the top down in the summer.” (Clarissa, 18 years in B-W)
“Our Sunday afternoon car rides, where we would have long talks about life or just blast songs by Styx, specifically Come Sail Away.” (Savannah, 18 years in B-W)
“When he taught me to drive. I remember going down 37th towards Knott St. and him saying, ‘you always have to be watching and scanning a block ahead and anticipating a car pulling out or a child suddenly darting out into the street.’ Those were great lessons that I passed on to my kids.” (Anna, 45 years in B-W)
