One of the board’s goals is to host more community events. BWNA applied to the City of Portland and was selected to host a Movies in the Park event this summer. Co-sponsored by BWNA and the Alameda Neighborhood Association, the movie “Encanto” will be shown in Wilshire Park on Aug. 10. Look for more details in the July-August newsletter. In March, the board approved funding for a proposed Beaumont-Wilshire Art & Garden Tour if all contingencies can be met. At our April meeting we hosted the Oregon Community Solar Program and held board elections. At our June 12 meeting we will hold a forum on air quality.
Crime Prevention & Safety
Auto theft and property crimes continue to plague the city, and BWNA is no exception. Residents reported stolen vehicles, including one stolen from an open garage. Subarus, Hondas, and Kias are popular targets.
Friends of Wilshire Park
Friends of Wilshire Park reported a great response to its request for park project ideas. At press deadline FoWP was still compiling the information; watch for a report in a future newsletter. Water at the dog park is expected to be installed by summer.
Land Use
Plans have been submitted for a cluster development at 4319 NE Mason St., replacing the existing single-family home with eight small, detached residences on the single lot. Parking is not required per city code 33.110.265 Section G, which allows cottage clusters, and OARs 660-012-0430 and 0440 that relate to reduction in parking requirements.
Transportation
The committee presented, and the board approved, a proposal with a funding request to paint street art on the recently installed “soft bump-outs” along Fremont at NE 44th and 46th. Also, residents conveyed concerns about increased traffic on NE 38th due to the diverter pilot project installed at NE Alameda/Fremont; follow-up traffic counts were requested. Portland Bureau of Transportation indicated traffic counts will be conducted there in fall 2023.
