An Interview with Local Game and Puzzle Store Owner

Creative Kids

Editor’s note: Our young reporter developed the questions for this interview. The words in [brackets] were added by the editor, who was also present at the interview. Many thanks to Miles English for his willingness to be interviewed!

Hi. I am the kid who wrote the article on why I love Beaumont-Wilshire in the last BWNA newsletter. In this newsletter, I interviewed Miles English, the owner of Puddletown Games & Puzzles, our awesome local game and puzzle store. I love the store and wanted to learn more about it, so I asked Miles some questions. I hope you like learning about Puddletown as much as I did. Look below to see the questions and answers. Goodbye for now!

When did you open the store? 1 year and 8 months ago. [From the interview date, March 9].

Why did you name your business Puddletown? Because no one uses the name. [When you start a business, you must make sure no one has that name for a website, but also be sure no one uses the name on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms.]

What made you want to start Puddletown? I was tired of my previous job. [Also, I enjoy playing board games and puzzles with my family, so I thought it would be fun to have a business selling them to other families.]

Why did you locate your business in Beaumont-Wilshire? Because there were no game stores here. [On a map I marked the locations of game stores in Portland. There was a big hole right in the middle, and Beaumont-Wilshire was in it.]

Do you like running a business? Yes, but there are some times of stress, [but other times are fun and exciting.]

What do you most love about Puddletown? I like the community that we are forming, [with repeat customers, and on Thursday nights customers come in and play games here.]

What is your favorite game or toy in the store? King of Tokyo. [I wish every family had a copy.]

What didn’t I ask that you want to tell our readers? We have a rental wall filled with games people can try out before buying.
