One of the things that attracted Nectar Frozen Yogurt Lounge owner Adrian Huether to an available space on NE Fremont was the variety of shops and places to eat on the street. Adrian, who lives in the neighborhood, says Beaumont Village has a similar vibe to the locale of his Sellwood store.
“It’s ideal for attracting families, the after-school crowd, and those just out for a stroll,” he says.
All are welcome to stop in for frozen yogurt when they get a hankering for a treat. The lounge atmosphere invites people to stay a while, talk, enjoy their yogurt treats, and spend time with each other.
The business is not a franchise, so the community surrounding each store puts its own stamp on the store’s ambience. Adrian believes that hiring people from the neighborhood — specifically those of high school and college age — helps the business to reflect the community.
“Young people should have the opportunity to work for a business that pays them well and respects their efforts,” says Adrian. “And, by teaching them accountability, it paves the way for the next step they might take in the job market.”
Adrian’s business ownership philosophy calls for investing as much time and money in the people who work for you as in other aspects of a business.
It seems that for Adrian, he believes this path will lead him to a business sweet spot — one in which his employees win, and so does the community.
