As you may have heard, Jim & Patty’s Coffee is back, albeit under new management and with a number of new twists.
The iconic Fremont Street coffee shop closed last November, along with another store in Beaverton, after a long series of woes forced it out of business.
New owner Paul Ceserani, who also owns the former Jim & Patty’s affiliated location in Forest Heights (now known as Black Tiger Coffee), spent the last eight months working out the details, some involving the original owner, Patty Roberts. Patty ran the beloved Fremont Street shop for many years with her husband Jim, who died in 2023. Patty’s no longer an owner or directly involved but has provided input on how to keep some of the old spirit alive, says Mason Allen, the new store’s manager.
Jim and Patty always provided a welcoming, “homey atmosphere,” Allen says, “and we want to continue to honor that.”
When we talked to them in early August, the new Jim & Patty’s expected to have a soft opening on Aug. 14 and a grand opening two days later. Plans call for nine staff, including Allen. Wyatt Halverson, store manager at Forest Heights, is also the company’s general manager and will provide guidance and oversight.
The Fremont shop’s menu will be similar to the old version, although smaller — but will still feature iconic favorites like sour cream coffee cake, Hipster Bowls, Pig Newtons breakfast rolls, and Black Tiger Coffee. “Otherwise,” Allen says, “there would be riots.”
Hours will be 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week.
The B-W neighborhood is likely to be quite excited by Jim & Patty’s return. “We’re excited to be back,” says Halverson.
