A group of ex-bakers from the neighborhood plans to open a wood-fired, family restaurant in the old Wilshire Market space upon completion of the required renovation. The construction schedule has yet to be completed, and the final concept includes wood-fired pizza and other treats but is still evolving. The space will have approximately 50 indoor seats and opportunities for sidewalk café seating on the south and west sides of the building. With the goal of accommodating big groups, families, and intimate dinners for 2, the large dining room will be essential.
Because of the location in the neighborhood and on the commuter route of Fremont Street, the owners plan to offer food from morning through dinner. While the morning fare will revolve around quick, hand-held sweet and savory treats, lunch and dinner will utilize the wood-fired oven for made-to-order meals and table service. And given the decades of bread experience in the group, the bakery behind the kitchen will supplement the menu with fermented artisanal breads, rolls, and pastries.
The beverage program will be extensive. Carbonated water will be plentiful and accompany interesting house-made syrups for kids and adults. There will be 6 rotating beer taps, 2 wine taps, many additional bottled beers and wines, and a simple, classic cocktail/spirits list.
A unique take-out program will be another feature of the restaurant. With its own entrance and pre-determined pickup times, the hope is to offer a level of quality, convenience, and value that busy families in the neighborhood will appreciate. The plan also includes a beer cooler, wine rack and bread rack to accompany food ordered for take out.
Residing in the community themselves and dedicated to being good neighbors, the owners’ highest priority is to create a clean, comfortable space that the neighborhood can be proud of.
