We caught up with a few small business owners on NE Fremont Street to see how tariffs, the presence of ICE in Portland, or AI has affected their business.
Patrick of Curve CNC, a routing and wood fabrication studio at 3611 NE 50th Ave.
“Tariffs have not significantly impacted the business, and plywood prices remain stable compared to pandemic-era increases. As for AI, I haven’t found an effective way to utilize it for research on competitors and other business.”
Allyson of Pacific Holiday, a women’s clothing consignment store at 4443 NE Fremont St.
“The shop has not been affected by tariffs or ICE-related disruptions, and I use AI as little as possible.”
Lori from Body Image Fitness, a fitness and strength training business for all ages at 5046 NE Fremont St.
“Because the business relies on subcontractors rather than retail sales, tariffs have had little effect. I don’t use AI, and ICE is not a relevant problem for me.”
