Are regular manicures, pedicures, or facials your thing? If so, you’ll likely appreciate that BB Nails and Spa steers to the elegant end of the salon spectrum. This recent business addition to Beaumont Village features a ceiling bejeweled with glittering, modern-style crystal chandeliers and a dozen relaxing pedicure chairs outfitted with gleaming glass basins. Rows of neatly furnished manicure stations round out the furnishings. The salon is spotlessly clean. A light touch with aromatherapy puts a final polish — pun intended — on the ambiance.
BB Nails is Vietnamese-born owner Trinh (pronounced chin or ching) Bui’s second location. She opened her first salon in 2019 and continues to operate it on NE Alberta Street.
Trinh arrived in the U.S. in 2004 with no English skills, little money, and several years’ experience doing nails in Vietnam. She took up the trade again in Portland, where her employer mentored her in business ownership — critical in helping her run her own salon.
Today, in addition to her two salons, Trinh owns a home in Rose City Park, is married, and has two sons, including one in college — evidence of her achievement of the American Dream. It appears Trinh has earned that through hard work and perseverance.
When asked what differentiates her salon from others, Trinh didn’t hesitate. “We are very much a family. Even staff who are not family, we treat like family,” she said. “Also, we don’t offer acrylic nails because the chemicals can be a health hazard to staff and also to customers.”
