Fremont Fun Run June 25
Get your sneakers ready for the Beaumont Business Association’s annual Fremont Fun Run on June 25 from 9-11 a.m. This 3K run and obstacle course through Beaumont Village and surrounding neighborhoods is a family-friendly event.

Happy Juneteenth!
Did you know that Juneteenth, or June 19, is now a federal holiday? That status was signed into law by President Biden last June, paving the way for this year’s celebrations. If you’re not sure what it is, here’s a primer from history.com:
Juneteenth, short for “June Nineteenth,” marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.
Although emancipation didn’t happen overnight for everyone—in some cases, enslavers withheld the information until after harvest season—celebrations broke out among newly freed Black people, and Juneteenth was born.
No matter what color you are or from whence you came, take time out to reflect and celebrate a wrong being righted after hundreds of years. Happy Juneteenth to all, and especially to our African American neighbors and friends.

At the end of March, neighborhood mailman Devinder Oberoi retired after 32 years delivering mail, 25 of those spent in Beaumont-Wilshire. He’s been grateful for our friendliness as well as the flatness of our streets! A big thank you and congratulations on his retirement.
Blackbird Wine Shop earns distinction
Apple News recently posted an article from Eat This Not That! in which Blackbird Wine Shop in Beaumont Village was named best wine shop in Oregon. The producer chose one wine shop from every state for this honor. Selections, according to the article, were based on “reviews, local preference, and past wine purchases.”
The article referenced the store’s opening in 2007, noting it’s a wine shop that specializes in French, Italian, and local wines, and also offers a wine and cheese bar. Congratulations and kudos to owner Andy Diaz and his staff!
