I’ve had the good fortune to grow up and live in neighborhoods that all created a sense of extended family; helping hands were an easy phone call or knock on a door away. In Midland MI while we were just starting out raising our family, there was a core group of 5-6 that called ourselves “senior achievement”; and we helped each other with many home improvement projects, moves and other activities over the years - where multiple hands made light work of many an endeavor. I often got more enjoyment and satisfaction working on others’ projects then when doing my own.
I’d like to try and create a group of fellow Beaumont-Wilshire neighbors that could act as that helpful hand for neighbors that find it difficult to do fairly simple tasks and maintenance around their house—that yard work or simple touch up painting that is more physically challenging then it used to be, either through temporary or longer term health issues.
I envision a monthly “working bee”, where the group tackles preplanned simple projects that may require 3-4 hours of volunteering. You wouldn’t need to be a particularly talented handyperson, we’d keep the jobs fairly simple, never requiring permits and could benefit from an extra set of hands. Neighbors could contact the group directly with requests for themselves or recommendations of help for others.
I’m using this forum to see what level of interest there may be to get involved in a volunteer opportunity that directly benefits our Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood.
