Grant joined the BWNA board at the Taste of Beaumont event in April earlier this year, apparently unable to resist BWNA President Al’s plea for new members. Grant has lived in Beaumont for about six years, the longest he has settled anywhere since leaving his hometown of Brooklyn, New York. He feels fortunate to have landed in Portland, particularly on the east side. He and his wife, Erin Rowe, enjoy taking full advantage of the nearby restaurants and bars the neighborhood has to offer.
Grant has a degree in Earth and Environmental Engineering from Columbia University and currently focuses more on the environmental aspects of that education. Through his work with a Portland environmental remediation company, he manages valuable resources in the Pacific Northwest. He works with a variety of clients within the oil and gas, utility, rail, mining, and chemical markets assisting with their environmental management needs.
While still in school, Grant participated in student government and enjoyed coordinating events and representing the student body. Since that experience, he has been looking for similar opportunities to involve himself in his community. After six years of living in Beaumont, he decided it was time to step up his engagement within the neighborhood. He and his wife attended Taste of Beaumont, and the rest is history. Grant’s participation on the board so far has included helping to organize the National Night Out picnic in August, which is always a big undertaking. He has also joined the board’s transportation sub-committee.
Because of his background, Grant is interested in energy efficiency issues and would like to find a way to incorporate this interest into the work he does on the BWNA board. In addition, Grant is a regular bike commuter and is interested in bicycle and transportation-related issues.
On a more personal note, Grant is currently a member of three different wine clubs—so if you’re looking for a way to bribe him, a good bottle of pinot would probably do the trick. We’re happy to welcome Grant to the board and look forward to his perspective and contributions.
