Two presentations of timely interest to our community will headline the first BWNA general meeting since June. Commissioner Amanda Fritz, a longtime BWNA favorite who participated in last year’s B-W graffiti cleanup has spoken at previous general meetings. She will return to share her thoughts on Mayor Hales’ reorganization of City Hall, including her new assignments as head of the Bureau of Parks & Recreation, the Bureau of Development Services, and city liaison to the Adjustment Committee, Building Board of Appeals, County Animal Control, and the Royal Rosarians. Then switching to back-to-school mode, the second presentation will focus on enrollment and transfer policy for Portland Public Schools during the current 2013-2014 academic year, with PPS Director of Enrollment Planning Judy Brennan addressing the issues. Following each presentation, the audience will be invited to ask questions and make comments.
As is the tradition at general meetings, a police officer is scheduled to provide a brief crime report and field questions at the beginning of the meeting. Additionally, neighborhood concerns will be updated and discussed, including the apartment building construction on Fremont, preservation of the park mural, maintenance of the Wistaria-Alameda stairwells, and traffic safety problems. An opportunity will also be afforded to bring up new issues of interest as well as to offer suggestions for future BWNA activities and events. As always, snacks and refreshments will be available for your noshing pleasure.
The meeting takes place on Monday evening, October 14th, in the basement activity room of Bethany Lutheran Church (called “Fellowship Hall”), corner of NE Skidmore Street and 37th Avenue, across from Wilshire Park. (Enter on the Skidmore side of the church, down the walkway.) Come support your neighborhood association and engage in discussion with neighbors and speakers on issues of import to our community. With that in mind, we suggest marking the meeting date and time on your calendar now as a reminder.)
