Ever have the inclination to comb through the current Beaumont-Wilshire Neighborhood Association Bylaws? (What, you have something better to do with your time?!) Well, that’s exactly what an informal subcommittee decided to take on last March, resulting in proposed amendments—some simple housekeeping measures (e.g., correcting awkward wording and inconsistent nomenclature) and some of a more substantive nature (e.g., revising duties for the president and vice president). Scrutinized by the board in early April at a special board meeting dedicated for the purpose, the amendments were tweaked and refined, then recommended for adoption at the June 12 general meeting. A two-thirds majority vote of general meeting attendees is required for ratification of each amendment.
Interested now? Hope so. Riveting reading it is not, but bylaws are BWNA’s constitutional foundation, with every sentence counting. So one of these sunny spring days, give it a try.
