Nicole Whitesell started in the fashion and retail world early, working for Nordstrom at age 15. She remained with the company for the next decade, cultivating her style and love for fashion as she graduated from college with a degree in Business and earned her contractors license. For 5 years she worked as a contractor with her husband (who is responsible for the eye-catching design and fixtures that help give Adorn it’s uniquely tasteful look) but became burned out with that line of work. She channeled her passion for style and fashion into an online side business that quickly grew into a full-time business: Shop Adorn was born.
Beginning in a 200 square foot space on 47th and Fremont in April of 2010 during very challenging economic times, Adorn received a great response from the neighborhood and was ready to expand. They have been in their current space on 41st and Fremont for a year, and business is thriving.
Many people followed the developments surrounding an electrical fire earlier this year that seriously damaged neighboring business Bagel Land as well. Shop Adorn was closed for nearly 5 months for rebuilding, a very painful process for everyone who had witnessed the hard work and dedication that was poured into the store. On May 4th the store re-opened with a celebration including trunk show pieces, new Spring inventory, and spiked lemonade.
Nicole attributes much of the business’ success to her team, including Kelsey Gerber (Web Manager) and Debbie Davis (Store Manager). Along with the rest of the staff, they create a fun and friendly atmosphere that patrons enjoy. “Many of our customers are neighbors and friends. People stop in all the time not only to shop, but just to say hi and catch up – that’s what we really enjoy,” says Nicole. “People in this neighborhood are great about shopping local and we provide quality, unique styles that are USA made.”
